What is VCI VPI in modem?

Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) is an 8-bit or 12-bit field within the header of Asynchronous Transfer Mode packet. Virtual Channel Identifier (VCI) along with VPI is used to identify the next destination of a cell as it passes through a series of ATM switches on its way to its destination. These numbers are essential on every DSL Modem to communicate each other.

Like any other modems in other countries, our ISP in the Philippines are also using VPI, VCI and Encapsulation to communicate. Along with other configuration setting value, this VPI VCI and Encapsulations are needed to have a correct values to avoid internet problems.
